Moving, Resetting, Reclaiming Space

When life shifts, pickup makes it easier to let go of what no longer belongs in your home.

A move or a change at home is a useful moment to look at what you are carrying forward. Clothes, shoes, and toys can take up space even when they no longer fit your life. Sorting them early gives you time to check collection options before the moving deadline arrives.

Separate decisions from packing

Choose a drawer, wardrobe section, or box and sort it before packing. Make separate groups for what you will keep, what you want collected, and what needs another option. Keep essential everyday items easy to reach so they do not disappear into the clear-out pile.

Check ownership before offering anything from a shared home. Look through pockets and bags, remove personal belongings and sensitive information, and describe the condition of the items you are ready to let go of.

Check the items and the address

Together Recycling offers free home pickup for eligible clothes, shoes, and toys in active U.S. service areas. A general household clear-out may also contain furniture, appliances, or other things outside these categories. Check the accepted-items guidance and contact the team about anything that is not clearly covered.

Use the service-area checker as a starting point. Your exact address needs to be checked when you request collection, including whether the pickup should happen at your current home before you move. Do not assume a route serves both your old and new address.

Plan around a confirmed pickup

  1. List the eligible items and describe their condition accurately.
  2. Provide the correct collection address and reliable contact details.
  3. Watch for the assigned pickup day and any updates.
  4. Make items safely accessible at the agreed location and time, following the instructions you receive.

A submitted request may be confirmed, rescheduled, declined, or canceled when operational conditions require it. Avoid relying on an unconfirmed request as the final step before leaving a property. Review the pickup preparation guide and collection terms as you plan.

Give the space a clear purpose

Once you have sorted the items, decide what the cleared space needs to hold next: the clothes you use, a smaller toy collection, or the boxes that are actually moving with you. Keep uncertain items separate until their next step is confirmed.

Before moving day

Start with one category and check the route early. Clear item details, the right address, and a confirmed pickup plan help you organize the handoff alongside the rest of your move.

Withdrawing a previously allowed category reloads the page so optional scripts start again in the denied state. See our Cookie Notice.
