Closet Clean-Outs
What has been sitting in bags for months can finally move forward.
Updated
A closet clean-out is easier when you give each item a clear next step. Start with one shelf, drawer, or small pile instead of trying to sort the whole home at once. You can make a useful decision about a few things today and come back to the rest later.
Start with what you actually use
Take the items out of the space you are sorting so you can see them. Separate the clothing you wear regularly from pieces that no longer fit, suit your routine, or have a place in your wardrobe. Keep a small undecided pile if you need more time; you do not need to make every decision in one sitting.
Check pockets and bags before anything leaves your home. Remove keys, receipts, cash, personal belongings, and sensitive information. If an item belongs to someone else in the household, ask them before including it.
Check the collection guidance
Together Recycling offers free home pickup for eligible clothes, shoes, and toys in active U.S. service areas. Review the accepted-items guide and describe both the items and their condition in your request. Ask the team about damaged garments or anything that is not clearly covered.
Wet, contaminated, hazardous, or otherwise unsuitable items may be declined. Keep uncertain items separate until you have an answer, rather than adding them to the collection without checking.
Turn a sorted pile into a pickup plan
- Gather the eligible items you are ready to let go of.
- Check current service areas and confirm availability for your exact address when you start a request.
- Provide accurate item, contact, and location details.
- Wait for the assigned pickup day and follow the preparation instructions you receive.
A submitted request does not guarantee collection. Use the pickup preparation guide to review what to check before the agreed day and location.
Make room without guessing where items will go
Collected clothing may be sorted, reused, recycled, or transferred through Together Recycling’s operations. A pickup does not guarantee a particular destination. If you want to make a charitable donation, check a charity’s acceptance rules directly; Together Recycling does not promise a charitable receipt or tax deduction.
Your next small step
Choose one drawer, check the items you no longer need, and make a plan for the eligible clothes. A manageable clear-out starts with a clear decision and a confirmed collection plan.
